Broads boating accident inquiry

The driver was thrown out and almost hit by the revolving boat

A film posted on the internet of a man losing control of his boat and being thrown into the river is being investigated by the Broads Authority.

The film, posted on YouTube, shows the boat colliding with a cruiser, the driver being thrown into the water and the dinghy spinning out of control.

The man narrowly avoided being hit by the outboard motor.

The Broads Authority believes it happened on 23 June on Oulton Broad on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk.

Broads Authority navigation ranger Rebecca Callister said her first reaction to the film was "horror, absolute shock and horror".

She said the man had no safety equipment on board and could have died.

She added: "I would like to think this sort of incident is rare, but obviously as we've seen it on YouTube it obviously happened and we'd like to speak to this chap, and anyone who witnessed it, about his behaviour on the river."
