Woman killed in canal boat fall

The incident happened near Cropredy

A woman died when she fell from a canal boat into a lock while on a family holiday in Oxfordshire.

Emergency services were called to Verney's Lock on the Oxford Canal, near Cropredy, early on Thursday evening.

Police believe the woman, who was in her late 40s and from Devon, hit her head as she fell off the back of the boat into the water.

The canal was closed while the police carried out their investigation. There are no suspicious circumstances.

The woman and her husband were on holiday with their two children and were thought to have been travelling back to Rugby, Warwickshire, where they had hired canal boat.
