Fatal crash motorcyclist is named

A man who died after being thrown from his motorcycle on a County Durham road has been named.

Peter Wilson was killed after swerving to avoid an oncoming bus while overtaking on the A167 near West Chilton roundabout, said police.

The 50-year-old, from Lumley Crescent in Ferryhill, hit a lamppost and was thrown into a fixed litter bin, suffering head and internal injuries.

Police said the road construction worker leaves two teenage daughters.

He died in Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital hours after the crash on Sunday afternoon.
