Biker dies following road crash

A man has died after being thrown from his motorcycle on a County Durham road.

The crash happened on the A167, near the West Chilton roundabout, when the 50-year-old tried to overtake several vehicles, according to police.

He swerved to avoid an oncoming bus and hit a lamp post, before being thrown into a fixed litter bin, suffering serious head and internal injuries.

The man died in Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital hours after the accident on Sunday afternoon.

Any witnesses to the crash, at 1745 BST, should contact police.
