Police have arrested four people over the death of a County Durham man.

Andrew Gardner, 35, of Arthur Street, Chilton, collapsed and died on 13 March, shortly after reporting he had been attacked.

A post-mortem examination revealed the father-of-four had suffered multiple injuries consistent with an assault.

Two men aged 44 and 23, and two women aged 51 and 27, all from Chilton, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday morning.

Originally from the Bensham Road area of Gateshead, Mr Gardner and his partner moved to Chilton last year with their baby daughter.

Mr Gardner's three children from a previous relationship also lived with them.
