The mother of a woman killed in a terrorist bombing in Turkey has said she is upset after the trial of the man accused of the attack was adjourned.

Helyn Bennett, 21, from Spennymoor, County Durham, was one of five people who died when a bomb exploded on a bus in Kusadasi on 16 July 2005.

Her mother Sharon Holden flew out for the start of the trial on Tuesday but it was adjourned until 9 October.

It was the first time Mrs Holden had been to Turkey since the bombing.

She said: "I was absolutely devastated but I know I need to pull myself together and face the next hurdle."

Helyn's fiance Stephen Stables, 23, her brother Adam, 16, cousin Sam Punshon, aunt Toni Punshon and Ms Punshon's partner Michael Aspinall were all injured.

Tara Whelan, 17, from Waterford, Ireland, was also killed.

Her parents had decided to take a boat trip to Greece instead of joining the rest of the party.

Mrs Holden, who flew to Turkey with Ms Punshon, told of the emotions of making the trip.

She said: "I arrived at the airport and just burst into tears. It brought all the memories back."

She is due to visit the scene on Wednesday to leave a floral tribute to her daughter and the others who died.

She said: "I know it will be difficult to see where it happened but I need to see it. That will be the next thing I have to face."

The accused, known by the initials MSF, appeared in court in Izmir on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until October.
