Traffic duty officer hit by car

A police community support officer was injured when she was struck by a car in Darlington.

The female officer was directing traffic at the junction of Whessoe Road and North Road, after a road closure caused by a house fire on Tuesday.

A lorry and Ford Fiesta collided, causing the car to spin around and hit her.

She suffered chest and arm injuries and was given first aid by fire crews at the scene.

She was taken Darlington Memorial Hospital, but her injuries have been described as non-life threatening.
