RNLI Lifeguards will provide week-round cover during the summer season

RNLI lifeguard teams have begun new patrols on two beaches in Devon.

The charity is now providing safety cover at Teignmouth and Dawlish Warren after the service was handed over by Teignbridge District Council.

Teams started on Saturday and are to patrol each beach everyday from 1000 to 1800 during the 25 to 30 May school holiday, and on weekends until 4 July.

From 4 July until 6 September, they will patrol seven days a week through the summer season, the RNLI said.

The RNLI protects 92 beaches in the South West.

Woolacombe was the busiest beach in Devon last year with more than 600 people rescued.
