Dancing like a tiger in Kerala

In the Indian state of Kerala, Stefan Gates experiences the festival of Onam, a Hindu celebration that binds this massive state of 32 million people together, despite it having the greatest proportion of non-Hindus of any Indian state.

He joins in Puli Kali - the tiger dance - and is the first white man to ever take part. After having all his body hair shaved off with a dry razor, and being painted with several layers of household gloss paint, he joins his team in dancing around the baking-hot streets of the city of Thrissur for four hours.

Feasts: India is broadcast on 20 May at 2100 BST on BBC Four.
