Murder accused gives evidence

One of three people accused of murdering a Norfolk teenager by setting him on fire has begun giving evidence at Norwich Crown Court.

Maria Chandler, 40, said her co-accused Jonathan Clarke, 19, made her drive him and the other defendant Jimi-Lee Stewart, 25 to farmland at Mautby.

The two men had put Simon Everitt in the boot, who they dragged out and made walk across the field, the jury heard.

Ms Chandler, of Great Yarmouth, and her co-defendants deny murder.

The defendant, of Lancaster Road, told the court that sometime after the two men had taken 17-year-old Mr Everitt away she went looking for them.

She said she had heard a scream, saw smoke and flames and she had been horrified by what she'd seen.

Ms Chandler said she later told police what had happened because she wanted them 'to know how wicked those boys had been'.

The case continues.
