Six arrested in immigration raids

Six men were arrested during a series of raids by UK Border Agency officers in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire.

The men were held on suspicion of immigration offences.

A border agency spokesman said the raids were carried out at restaurants in Bedford, Corby and Northampton on Thursday night.

He said five of the men were Indian and the other was Romanian. The restaurant owners were given on-the-spot penalty notices for employing illegal workers.

At the restaurant in Bedford, two men from India, aged 25 and 27, were arrested.

In Corby, officers arrested another two Indian men, aged 22 and 28.

In Northampton, a 27-year-old Indian man was arrested.
