Men charged following drug raids

Six men have been charged after being arrested during an inquiry targeting organised crime in Northampton.

The men are among 14 people arrested on suspicion of offences including the supply of class A drugs.

In total, twelve men and two women were arrested on Thursday and Friday as part of Operation Landslide.

The six men are due before Kettering Magistrates' Court later. The others arrested have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said all six men charged faced allegations of conspiracy to supply class A drugs between November 2003 and March 2009.

Officers suspended

Two have also been charged with conspiracy to handle stolen goods.

One of the men faces further charges of handling stolen goods and counterfeiting offences.

Seventeen premises were searched in the operation, which involved up to 200 officers.

One of those released on bail was arrested on suspicion of incitement to corrupt police officers.

In two further arrests, a Bedfordshire police officer and a Northamptonshire police officer were held on suspicion of misfeasance in a public office.

The police spokeswoman said the officers had been released on bail pending further enquiries.

"Both have been suspended from duty," she said.
