Police officers held in operation

Two police officers are among fourteen arrested in an investigation targeting organised crime in Northampton.

A Northamptonshire Police officer and a Bedfordshire Police officer were arrested on suspicion of misfeasance in a public office.

Ten men and two women from Northampton were also held on suspicion of offences including being concerned in the supply of drugs, and money laundering.

Seventeen premises were searched in the operation involving up to 200 officers.

The 12 people were arrested on suspicion of various offences which included dealing in counterfeit currency, handling stolen property and money laundering.

Police said class A drugs, believed to be cocaine and heroin, were recovered, and items seized included televisions, other electrical goods and cash.

The operation is among the largest ever mounted by Northamptonshire Police, and was supported by officers from the Lincolnshire and Leicestershire forces.
