An inmate serving a life sentence has absconded from Hollesley Bay open prison in Suffolk.

Suffolk Police have appealed for help in tracing Richard Izzard, 34, who was serving a sentence for causing grievous bodily harm.

Izzard went missing from the prison on Thursday. He was last seen at about 2015 GMT.

A police spokeswoman said he has connections to the Sandy and Biggleswade areas of Bedfordshire.

He is described as white, 5ft 7in tall (1.7m), with receding brown hair and hazel eyes.

He has a thin to medium build.

The spokeswoman said anyone who sees Izzard should call police and not take further action.
