A man and a woman have been charged with perverting the course of justice after a 41-year-old man died following a fire at his home.

George Black, of The Square, Bucknell, Shropshire, died on 10 December, two days after suffering severe burns.

Steven Smith, 45, and Sylvia Smith, 41, from Hope under Dinmore in Herefordshire, were given bail by magistrates in Telford, Shropshire.

A second woman who was arrested was still being questioned, police said.

The couple, who were ordered not to contact two key witnesses, are to appear in Shrewsbury Crown Court on the 18 January.
