Government offers company 'MOTs'

More than 388 firms have had the 'health check' since October

Companies in the East of England are being offered "business MOTs" to help them survive the economic downturn.

The Business Health Check, provided by the government's Business Link, will help check aspects such as cash flow and marketing.

Experts then help bosses draw up tailor-made plans to make sure they can weather the slump in the economy.

More than 388 firms have had the health check since the service was launched in October.

Secretary of state for business Lord Mandelson said: "In the current economic climate it's more important than ever for small businesses to take action before they find themselves in difficulties.

"Larger firms can afford advisers and accountants. We want to ensure small businesses, with fewer employees and limited resources, benefit from the type of advice and support they need to plan for the times ahead and to come out stronger on the other side."
