A man has admitted manslaughter after punching a man from Southampton in the head during a row in the street in Bristol.

Mohammed Waqar, 22, of Stratford Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham pleaded guilty, at Bristol Crown Court, to killing Simon Bampton, 21, on 19 August 2008.

Mr Bampton suffered a brain haemorrhage after his head jerked from the punch.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC adjourned the case for sentencing, until 4 February. Waqar was granted bail.

Waqar, who was working as a club doorman in Bristol at the time, had completed the first year of a civil engineering course at Birmingham City University and was in the process of transferring to a law degree.
