The parents of a murder victim who was found stabbed in central Brighton have said they do not know how they are going to rebuild their lives.

The family of Stuart Slade, who died in the Royal Sussex County Hospital, said that only his seven-year-old son could "keep them going".

Mr Slade, 35, of Old Steine, was found injured in the street by passers-by in the early hours of 30 December.

A post-mortem showed he died from stab wounds to his chest.

He was found in Hampton Place by members of the public who flagged down police officers on patrol in Western Road at about 0230 GMT.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

'Loving and caring'

Stuart's mother Maureen and his father, also called Stuart, both from south-west London, issued a tribute through Sussex Police.

They said Mr Slade was a "loving and caring son and father who is going to be greatly missed".

They added: "We would not wish what we are going through on any mother or father.

"We both feel that a big part of our lives was taken away when Stuart's life was taken from him.

"What has happened has broken our hearts and we do not know how we are going to rebuild our lives.

"It is only Stuart's seven year-old-son, our grandson, who will keep us going."

Sussex Police have asked anyone with information to contact either the force or Crimestoppers.
