Major firm marking centenary year

Marshall executives unfurling a flag
Marshall executives unfurling a flag to mark the beginning of their centenary

Early on New Year's Day a new flag was unfurled in Cambridge to mark the beginning of the centenary year of one of the city's largest companies.

In 2009 the Marshall Group celebrates its 100th year in business and the 80th anniversary of its link with aviation.

It was founded in 1909 as a chauffeur drive service by David Marshall.

It is now a major car dealership, a service company for aircraft, an engineering organisation for military vehicles and an executive travel firm.

The highlight of the year will be a centenary open day for employees, their family and friends in Cambridge on Sunday, 20 September 2009.
