Sixteen staff hurt in coach crash

The road was closed for two hours

Sixteen people were injured when a coach carrying factory workers collided with a lorry on an industrial estate.

Thirty passengers had been picked up in Wolverhampton and were being taken to a food factory when the crash happened in the Hortonwood estate, Telford.

The coach driver was trapped for more than an hour in the wreckage and taken to hospital with a leg injury.

Fifteen passengers were also taken to hospital with minor injuries. The crash happened during Friday morning.

The lorry driver was unhurt.

The injured coach driver, believed to be in his 30s, and three of his passengers were treated at the scene before being transferred to the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

Twenty-six walking wounded were taken to Donnington ambulance station for assessment, with 12 later transferred to hospital.

A spokesman for the coach company, A.T Brown, said the crash had caused disruption to services but said that all bookings were now being carried out as normal.
