A former church minister found guilty of bigamy in his absence has given himself up to police.

Roderick Sangster, 58, married Janet Pollard, with whom he lived in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, while still married to Jill Sangster in 2004.

Sangster was absent during the trial at Warwick Crown Court on 13 November when he was also convicted of forgery.

He walked into a police station in the south of England at 1000 GMT and was taken into custody, police said.

Sangster, originally from Perth in Scotland, is due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on Friday for sentencing.

His trial was told he studied divinity at Aberdeen University for five years and qualified as a Church of Scotland minister at St Andrews.

He had previously worked as a police officer.
