Man found dead in back of lorry

A man's body has been found in the back of a lorry after police stopped the vehicle on a motorway in Hampshire.

The Italian-registered articulated lorry entered the country through the Channel Tunnel at Ashford, Kent, on Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers in Hampshire stopped the vehicle between junctions nine and 10 of the M3 southbound at Winchester and discovered the body of an Oriental man.

The lorry driver, a 45-year-old Italian man, has been detained.

The death is being treated as unexplained.

A post-mortem examination on the man, who is thought to be between 25 and 30 years old, will take place later on Tuesday.

Police said the lorry has a white cab and blue tarpaulin curtain sides.

Officers are appealing for information about the lorry after reports that other people may have been in the rear of the vehicle when it entered the country.
