Date set for terror offence trial

A man arrested at Lowestoft railway station in Suffolk charged with a series of terrorism offences will face trial next summer.

Neil Lewington, 43, of Tilehurst, Reading, Berkshire, appeared by prison videolink at the Old Bailey and was remanded back in custody.

He is accused of possessing improvised explosive devices including timers, weedkiller and firelighters.

His trial is due to start at the Old Bailey on 29 June next year.

Bomb disposal experts were called when police found suspect devices as they searched Mr Lewington at Lowestoft railway station on 30 October.

He was initially charged with possession of an article intended to cause criminal damage and a public order offence.

He was then charged with 10 offences under the Terrorism Act and one under the Explosives Act.

Charges include preparing acts of terrorism, having an explosive substance with intent to endanger life, having a Waffen SS UK member's handbook and a book called Counter Bomb for Terrorism.
