Great-grandmother is back on road

A great-grandmother has regained her driving licence, 47 years after passing her test for the first time.

Audrey Humble from Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, was banned from the road in 2006 and ordered to sit an extended driving test.

The now 82-year-old had driven the wrong way down a slip road off the Central Motorway in Newcastle and struck another vehicle.

She said she was on "cloud nine" after passing with flying colours.

Hard work

Mrs Humble said: "I was fined £1,000, had my licence taken away, and was told I had to take an extended test before I got it back.

"I wasn't happy about having to do it, but I was determined.

"Most people taking their driving test are rather afraid they won't pass it, but I put in a lot of hard work."

She added: "I'm on cloud nine."
