Clearance sales for pottery firm

Pottery made by the firm
The firm went into administration earlier this month

Clearance sales are being held at 16 shops around the UK after a pottery firm went into administration.

Royal Worcester and Spode went into administration after failing to sell its Stoke-on-Trent site and because of the current economic downturn.

Administrator Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) said the sales aimed to increase visitors to the shops and revenue.

PwC is looking for a buyer for the china firm and said it was exploring "numerous expressions of interest".

Jobs lost

It said it would continue working with Royal Worcester and Spode staff, key customers and suppliers while a buyer was sought.

The clearance sales were taking place at stores including those in Birmingham, Worcester, Solihull and Wolverhampton.

Other outlets included those in Peterborough, Northampton, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

Forty jobs were lost at the pottery maker a day after the firm called in administrators earlier this month.

Royal Worcester and Spode which dates back to 1751, employs 388 people in the UK at sites in Stoke, Worcester and Lymdale in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
