DIY store building gutted by fire

More than 80 firefighters were called to tackle a blaze that gutted a DIY tools store in Hertfordshire overnight.

Investigations are under way at the Watford business where a fire broke out in the early hours.

Fifteen fire engines from Hertfordshire attended the blaze at Powertek DIY tools in Aldenham Road, with crews also coming from Stanmore and Harrow.

A fire service spokeswoman said that 75% of the building was on fire by the time crews arrived.

"Eight jets were directed on the flames to bring them under control," she said.

An investigation is being carried out by specialist fire officers and police.

Det Sgt Kevin Brown, of Watford CID, said: "I am particularly keen to speak to two young males, aged between 16 and 19 who were seen walking past the scene around the time of the incident."
