Woman found by side of road dies

A woman has died in hospital after being found by the side of the road in Dorset with apparent minor injuries.

It is believed the 68-year-old was involved in an incident with a seven-and-a-half tonne van which has been seized in Burnley, Lancashire.

The woman had been reported missing from her home in Corfe Mullen, near Wimborne, on Tuesday and found on the A31 later that day.

A man from Nelson, Lancashire, has been spoken to by police but not arrested.

It is believed he had been driving the van.

The woman was found by an off-duty police officer lying at the roadside.

She was conscious and breathing and taken to Poole Hospital where she died on Wednesday.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out next week.

Officers are keen to hear from the driver of another van who stopped at the scene. He is not being treated as a suspect.
