Desserts factory secures 100 jobs

About 100 jobs are being created at a desserts factory in Shropshire after proposals were announced to close another plant in Devon.

A spokeswoman said the majority of the new posts at St Ivel, Shrewsbury, were linked to plans over Riviera Desserts in Paignton, also owned by Uniq Plc.

Closure plans for the Paignton site, which employed 380 people, were announced earlier this year.

The Shrewsbury site, at Minsterley, has taken on 85 workers in recent months.

The Paignton site was due to close next year.

The spokeswoman said of those employed there, the vast majority were given the chance to apply for any relevant vacancies at Minsterley.
