A woman has been arrested by officers investigating damage to a Premiership referee's 40,000 sports car.

Mark Clattenburg's Porsche was attacked with paint outside his home in Gosforth, Newcastle, in August.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested over the incident last month, it has now emerged. She was bailed by police pending further inquiries.

The 33-year-old referee is currently suspended from the Premier League amid allegations relating to debts.

The Professional Game Match Officials inquiry was triggered by claims Mr Clattenburg, who is originally from Consett, County Durham, was in financial difficulty.

Earlier this year, he was taken to county court by a former business partner who was suing over a 5,000 alleged debt, but the matter was settled out of court.
