Rainbow Warrior

Greenpeace's protest ship The Rainbow Warrior sailed up the Thames towards Kent as part of the group's campaign against the building of a new coal fired power station at Kingsnorth.

Diwali festival

The annual Diwali celebration, the festival of light, took place in London's Trafalgar Square on Sunday. It has religious significance for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains and is celebrated by many in the capital.

Toni and John Lappin

Toni and John Lappin carried floral tributes to the scene where their son Joseph, 16, was stabbed to death outside a Liverpool youth club on Monday. Two of Joseph's friends were also injured in the attack.

David and Michelle Statham and children Jay, Mason, Reece and Ellouise were killed when their car burst into flames after a collision with a lorry on the M6 in Cheshire on Monday night.

HMS Chatham returned to its base at Plymouth on Wednesday after seven months at sea. During their mission, some of the crew were involved in a major drugs seizure in the Persian Gulf.

Walking house

Helen Robinson, from Cambridge, looks into the Walking House at the Wysing Arts Centre in Bourn, Cambridgeshire. Built on six hydraulic legs, designers say it is a possible property of the future.

Poppy man

And the Royal British Legion's Poppy Man visited Ullswater in the Lake District this week as part of his national tour to promote the organisation's Poppy Appeal. He was later seen in Basra.
