Builders planning to shed 90 jobs

A construction firm employing 2,000 people across the east of England is to cut up to 90 jobs at its Norfolk-based joinery operation.

RG Carter said many larger projects were now coming to an end.

The firm said in a statement that a "difficult economic cycle" meant reducing the workforce to "more traditional levels".

Staff, including 150 apprentices and trainees, are employed in Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk.

But the firm stressed its commitment to "direct employment of tradesmen and our investment in apprentices and training still remains".

Talks about the job cuts are said to be under way with union representatives.
