Shipyard work recruitment drive

One of Cumbria's biggest employers is trying to recruit former shipyard workers from the North East of England.

BAE Systems in Barrow needs 400 engineers, welders, electricians and managers to join the workforce building aircraft carrier parts and submarines.

It is holding a jobs fair at the Legacy Springfield Hotel, on Durham Road, in Gateshead, on Thursday.

In July the plant won a share in £3.2bn worth of contracts to build the aircrafts for the MoD.
