Trapped lorry driver loses an arm

A lorry driver has had to have his arm amputated at the scene of an accident in Kent after part of a load of marble and granite fell off his vehicle.

The 43-year-old man, from Lincolnshire, had been delivering the load in Minster, on the Isle of Thanet.

Police said he was trapped under a block which was being moved off the lorry in Bedlam Court Lane.

After he was freed, the driver was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the accident, and officials have been at the scene.
