Threatened post office is saved

The Post Office has announced that it will not go ahead with the proposed closure of a branch in Norfolk.

The outlet in Norwich Road, New Costessey, Norwich, had been earmarked to shut.

It said that as a result of the feedback received during the local public consultation, the branch will now remain open.

It added there would be no more consultations over post office closures in the Norfolk and West Suffolk areas.

Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Norwich South, said: "It draws to an end an horrendous programme of branch closures across Norfolk which has damaged many communities.

"It's a great relief that other communities will not now have to go through the same process, at least not for a few years."
