A man from County Durham who put his whole life up for sale on an internet auction site has begun a new challenge.

Ian Usher wants to fulfil 100 life-long ambitions in as many weeks.

The 44-year-old, who left Darlington for Australia six years ago, decided to sell everything, including his house, job and friends when his wife left him.

No sufficient bids materialised and he has returned to carry out one of his ambitions, diving from the top board of a swimming pool in Darlington.

He had accepted a top bid of 399,300 Australian dollars (192,276) for his whole life but the deal fell through when none of the highest bidders were able to go ahead.

He says none of the highest bidders were able to go ahead with the sale:

His house in Perth is now lying empty while Ian travels the world carrying out his list of life-long ambitions.

Mr Usher has already done seven of the tasks including dry slope skiing in Dubai, a bungee jump in the South of France, a dive in Italy to an underwater statue of Christ and going to the top of the Eifel Tower.

On his return to Darlington he said: "I wanted to dive off the top board at Bishop Auckland swimming baths but they don't have boards anymore so I went to the Dolphin centre in Darlington.

"I was just as scared as I was when I was a kid but I plucked up the courage and dived off, which never dared when I was younger."

Other ambitions on his wish list include taking part in the Pamplona bull run and a visit to the Titanic on the sea bed by submarine.
