Views sought on traveller sites

People in the South East are being urged to give their views on plans for new camping sites for Gypsies, travellers and travelling show people.

South East England Regional Assembly (Seera) has launched a public consultation on its 10-year target.

It wants views on how spaces should be sited in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire and Surrey.

More than 1,200 new camping spaces are planned for the region.

Councillor Moira Gibson said: "After years of uncertainty over making space for the Gypsy and Travelling communities, councils now have a duty to provide new spaces in a bid to cut homelessness and reduce illegal camping.

"We want to hear everyone's opinion on the new plans."

The consultation will end on 21 November.
