Dog walker took grenade find home

A man walking his dog near a newly ploughed field in Suffolk spotted a grenade and took it home in case it injured any animals.

Stewart Stringer, of Mumford Road, Ipswich, then contacted the police.

They sent a bomb disposal squad from Colchester in Essex which arrived within an hour. They exploded the World War II grenade in Mr Stringer's garden.

He said: "A lot of people walk their dogs in the area so I picked it up, put it in the boot and took it home."
