Man charged over double stabbing

Police investigating a double stabbing in Newcastle city centre have charged a man with attempted murder.

A 25-year-old woman and a man aged 26, who was stabbed in the back and front, remain in intensive care in hospital.

They were found with stab injuries near Newcastle Central Station early on Saturday morning.

Graham Mitchell, 39, of Walker, Newcastle, has been charged with attempted murder and will appear before city magistrates on Monday.
