The woman whose body was found in a burning suitcase in a layby in Cambridgeshire was a Swedish national, police said.
Rahmona Ahmedin, 23, who was also known as Rahma, lived in Peabody Square, Islington, north London.
Her body was discovered in a layby on the A1301 at Hinxton by a lorry driver on Wednesday.
A man, 24, arrested on suspicion of murder after he walked into a London police station is being questioned.
Ms Ahmedin was reported missing last Saturday.
A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a stab wound to the chest, the spokesman said.
A murder investigation was begun by Cambridgeshire Police, but it has been taken over by the Metropolitan Police.
