Charges brought over taxi robbery

A 27-year-old man has been charged with robbery and multiple driving offences, after a taxi was stolen from its driver at knifepoint.

The Darlington taxi driver had picked up a fare at the Turks Head pub and taken the passenger to the Red Hall estate, where the vehicle was taken.

The stolen taxi was stopped in Stockton, early on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning.
