Chicken firm promises investment

A chicken processing company has said it is "investing significantly" in a Shropshire factory which a union has suggested should close.

Unite said the Hortonwood site in Telford should shut instead of Faccenda Group's plant at Sutton Benger, Wilts.

The firm is looking at shutting the latter site in September.

It said there were no plans to close the Telford factory and it had announced in April that it would invest in it over the next few months.

Faccenda said the consultation process regarding the proposed closure of the Sutton Benger site was ongoing.

Unite had suggested work could be consolidated on the sites at Sutton Benger and Brackley in Northamptonshire.

It said it believed having two factories nearer to each other would cut transport costs.
