Housebuilder to close 13 offices

One of the biggest housebuilders in the East has announced plans to close one in three of its regional companies.

Taylor Wimpey, owners of Bryant Homes, proposes to close 13 offices, including Bryant Anglia, Bryant Eastern, Bryant Peterborough and Bryant East Midlands.

In the East, they currently have about 30 developments in the pipeline, under construction or nearing completion.

Peter Redfern, Taylor Wimpey chief executive, said the company was acting now to end uncertainty among its staff.

He said: "Our experience in the US and historically in the UK is that when housing markets slow, those that react most quickly and decisively become stronger businesses, and provide the most secure and positive environment for their continuing staff."

Staff consultation are taking place with some possibly transferred to other offices.
