Body found among recycling waste

A man's body may have been carried for about 100 miles - hidden inside a truckload of waste for recycling.

The body was found on Tuesday afternoon at a waste management company in Crayford, south-east London.

But a Metropolitan Police spokesman said inquiries had led them to discover the body had been among rubbish which had arrived from Worcestershire.

The Crossgates waste depot in Redditch has now been closed while inquiries are made.

A post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive and further tests are being carried out.

The death of the man, whose age and ethnicity are not yet known, is being treated as "unexplained".

Redditch Borough Council confirmed its Crossgates depot was closed on Wednesday due to a police investigation.

Some waste collections were disrupted as a result.

Recycling from homes across Redditch, which are all issued with wheelie bins, is taken to the centre by refuse lorries before it is removed to be processed elsewhere.
