Men held over £20m heroin haul

Three man have been arrested following the seizure of heroin worth an estimated £20m in Kent.

Officers found more than 770lb (350kg) of the drug in two vehicles in the car park of Maidstone Services near junction eight on the M20 motorway.

Scotland Yard said the seizure happened after police watched a suspected drug deal take place between two drivers.

It is one of the largest ever heroin seizures in the UK, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Scotland Yard said 10 boxes containing the drug were found in a BMW estate car with Dutch plates and three packages were discovered in a Seat Leon.

Det Ch Insp Peter Beyer

The 35-year-old BMW driver and the 30-year-old Seat driver were arrested.

Another 31-year-old man was seized in Ilford, north London.

All three were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply approximately 350kg of a class A drug and are being held at a police station in south London.

Det Ch Insp Peter Beyer said: "This is one of the largest ever seizures of heroin by police in the UK.

"We have severely disrupted a highly organised criminal network engaged in the wide scale importation and distribution of class A drugs.

"This has been achieved through good detective work by my operational team and is another excellent result for the Met's Central Task Force."
