Woman arrested after river rescue
A woman who was rescued from the swollen River Severn has been arrested on suspicion of shoplifting.

Police officers threw a lifebuoy to the woman who had jumped into the river near the Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury at about 14.30 GMT.

She was pulled to safety by the officers and onto a landing stage at Frankwell Quay, where she was given first aid at the scene.

She was later taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for a check up.

The woman was arrested after being treated in hospital.
