Gas installation plan thrown out
Field involved in the plans
The installation was to be built in a field
Plans to build a gas installation at a beauty spot in Gloucestershire have been rejected by the government.

National Grid had wanted to build the pressure reduction plant near Corse, on the border with Worcestershire, as part of a £1bn natural gas pipeline.

The pipeline, which will run from Wales to Gloucestershire, is the subject of a European Commission investigation.

Protests had been held against the pressure plant by the Campaign against the Pressure Reduction Installation.

Its chairman Peter McMurtrie, said the group was delighted.

"I would like to place on record our gratitude to everyone who assisted us in this campaign, whether by gift of money, time or expertise."

A National Grid spokesman added: "National Grid is disappointed that planning permission for Corse pressure reduction installation has been refused.

"We will look very carefully at the wording of the refusal and will consider all the options available to us."
