Tyres ruined by metal rod fault
Huge tailbacks were caused on the M25 after a steel rod, which reinforces the concrete on a carriageway, came loose and shredded the tyres of vehicles.

Two lanes were closed for repair work to be carried out at junction 30 on the Essex-east London border.

The main tailback stretched from Lakeside back to junction three for Swanley heading in an anti-clockwise direction.

But the lanes have been reopened and traffic is now flowing normally.
