A man has appeared in court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a West Midlands Police detective was hit by a car.

He is also accused of causing actual bodily harm to two police constables and dangerous driving.

Det Con Catherine Corbett is critically ill after she was hit by a car near Heathrow Airport on Friday.

The 39-year-old, from Solihull, West Midlands, is being treated in the neurological unit at London's Charing Cross Hospital.

Awarded commendation

The incident happened as Det Con Corbett and three other West Midlands Police officers attempted to arrest a man who had been wanted for 12 months.

Two of the other officers suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Det Con Corbett, who was awarded a commendation for outstanding work in 1993, had been in London for two days investigating the case.

Mr Singh is due to appear at Harrow Crown Court on 4 January.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old woman who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail to return to a west London police station at a future date.
