New appeal over missing tourist
Eddie Gibson
Eddie Gibson has not been heard from for three years
The parents of a Sussex backpacker who vanished in Cambodia have made a fresh appeal for information on the third anniversary of his disappearance.

Eddie Gibson, 22, of Hove, went missing on 24 October 2004, a week before he was due to fly back to Britain.

His father Mike wants people who were in Cambodia at the time and have just returned to the UK to come forward.

He hopes they may have met his son in the days before he vanished. A 10,000 reward is on offer for any information.

We want to keep his name alive

He said: "Eddie must have seen some Britons or Westerners during the time he was in the capital Phnom Penh and we want to hear from anyone who may have been travelling for some time and may have just returned.

"After three years it is not something as parents we can put to bed.

"We want to keep his name alive."

Mr Gibson was three weeks into a combined Asian and Pacific studies and international management course at Leeds University when he decided to travel to the Far East.

Televised appeal

Two weeks into his trip, Mr Gibson's mother received an e-mail telling her he would be flying home from Thailand a week later - but he never arrived.

Investigators have completed a picture of his movements only up to 23 October.

Detectives from Sussex Police went to Cambodia in July 2006 to work alongside officers there.

His parents also travelled to the country in January to make a televised appeal but any leads drew a blank.

Det Insp Graham Pratt said: "Unfortunately, it remains the fact that Eddie's whereabouts after 24 October remain a mystery.

"We would be keen to hear from anyone who has anything that may assist, even after all this time."
