Boy aged six 'unlawfully killed'
Jethro Field

An inquest in Surrey into the death of a six-year-old boy who was stabbed and hit with a brick has returned a verdict of unlawful killing.

Jethro Field was found dead at his home in George Road, Farncombe, near Godalming, on 4 April.

His father, Dafydd Field, aged 52, was found dead in prison while on remand charged with his murder.

Following the inquest, Jethro's mother Stevie said her son was a "special little boy... I miss him very much".

Mr Field was arrested when he handed himself into a police station in Tywyn, Gwynedd, Wales, on the morning Jethro's body was found.

He died at HMP Lewes, in East Sussex, six days later. It was believed he had electrocuted himself.

Memorial plaque

After the inquest verdict in Woking on Thursday, his mother said she was grateful for contributions to a fund to buy outdoor play equipment in her son's name.

She said: "We have chosen a piece of equipment that children Jethro's age really enjoy, called the Vega.

"It will be installed soon in Broadwater Park [in Farncombe], along with a memorial plaque for Jethro.

"This was a favourite place where Jethro came to play and spent many hours with his friends."

Jethro's funeral in May saw mourners lining the streets of Farncombe as his coffin was carried on a motorcycle sidecar.
